Per parlare di questo film si potrebbe ripetere molto di quanto già detto riguardo Ricky Bobby in questo post: stesso regista, stesso protagonista e sceneggiatore (Will Ferrell), alcuni membri del cast in comune, e soprattutto lo stesso stile: ovvero, una commedia di stampo e di struttura classica (e quindi, in un modo o nell’altro, molto prevedibile e collaudata) ma declinata attraverso una sceneggiatura surreale, caustica e irresistibile.
Ma Anchorman, che non è uscito nelle nostre sale ma si può trovare (a fatica) in dvd in italiano, e che comunque va giudicato anche per quello che è, tutto sommato (ovvero una minchiata, ecco, pure se in un’accezione gentile) ha persino qualcosa in più. Ha una quantità maggiore e indecente di scene in cui ci si trattiene a fatica da risate starnazzanti: perlopiù sono i dialoghi a fare questo effetto, ma anche sequenze come la street battle tra le crew televisive (in cui spuntano Luke Wilson, Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn e Tim Robbins) oppure quella della morte del cane (in cui spunta Jack Black: ma che sono, tutti amici?), o la scena animata a Pleasure Town.
E poi c’è il personaggio marginale ma stupefacente di Brick, il meteorologo idiota intepretato da Steve Carell. Se più persone avessero visto Anchorman, io compreso, non lo si sarebbe trattato così male solo perché ha fatto quella schifezza di 40 Year Old Virgin. Oh scusami, Steve.
"Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale’s vagina."
"No, there’s no way that’s correct."
"I’m sorry, I was trying to impress you. I don’t know what it means. I’ll be honest, I don’t think anyone knows what it means anymore. Scholars maintain that the translation was lost hundreds of years ago."
"Doesn’t it mean Saint Diego?"
"No. No."
"No, that’s – that’s what it means. Really."
"Agree to disagree."

Sì, credo siano tutti amici. Dopotutto molti vengono dal SNL (e si vede).
Detto questo – pur piacendomi di solito questo genere di “minchiate” – a me non ha fatto ridere moltissimo. Forse perché c’è la moraletta di fondo sull’emancipazione delle donna o perché sotto sotto il film pretende di avere un piglio storico-sociale. La cosa migliore del film è senza dubbio Carell.

Quando ho sentito questo dialogo, 5 minuti dopo la scena della rissa tra gang, ho spento il DivX e sono andato a coprarmelo originale:
Ron Burgundy: “Boy, that escalated quickly… I mean, that really got out of hand fast.”
Champ Kind: “It jumped up a notch.”
Ron Burgundy: “It did, didn’t it?”
Brick Tamland: “Yeah, I stabbed a man in the heart.”
Ron Burgundy: “I saw that. Brick killed a guy. Did you throw a trident?”
Brick Tamland: “Yeah, there were horses, and a man on fire, and I killed a guy with a trident.”
Ron Burgundy: “Brick, I’ve been meaning to talk to you about that. You should find yourself a safehouse or a relative close by. Lay low for a while, because you’re probably wanted for murder.”
